Best Hollywood Studios Restaurants

tower of terrorDespite some of my misgivings about where Hollywood Studios is at the moment, they have some super-fun restaurants. (Dear God, please do not take these away, too.)

There will be a handful of new options once Star Wars Land opens, but until then, here are the ones Steve and I make a point of visiting.

Sci-Fi Dine-In

  • Food type: Americana! Burgers, fries, shakes, etc
  • Theme: Carhops bring your food to your “car” at a 1950s era drive-in movie theater
  • Do you need a reservation? Yep. This one is super-popular.

This is one of the most unique spots in Disney, if you ask me. You walk into a large, darker room that has been transformed into a 1950s era drive-in movie spot at night. The screen plays real clips and horror/sci-fi movie previews from the era, and everyone is seated at tables that are built to feel as though you’re in a classic car.

The food is solid, with a choice of burgers, milkshakes (they have adult ones with alcohol options), fries, and all the other things you’d expect at a drive-in.

We are fans.

50s Prime Time Cafe

  • Food type: Classic American home-cooked meals (think meatloaf, fried chicken)
  • Theme: You’re a kid at Mom’s table, complete with “get your elbows off the table” admonishments from waiters/waitresses. Some of them will also give you homework.
  • Do you need a reservation? Yes

The food is decent, but the experience is almost always really fun if you like interacting with staff. The staff essentially acts like your parent, nagging you to eat your veggies, giving you homework, and telling you to get your elbows off the table. You sit at a 1950s-era kitchen table, complete with black and white TV.

Note: You can get waitstaff that isn’t as into the fun, and it loses some of the appeal. But when you get one that really plays up the role, you’ll have a blast.

P.S. Try and peanut butter and jelly milkshake. You’re welcome.
